Remaining Autumn Flowering Bulbs

                     Remaining Autumn Flowering Bulbs.

First time flowering  Colchicum feinbruniae Syria from J & J Archibald seed 0.314.250 slow to flower from seed but that is from neglect by me. It is the first Colchicum to flower and we have had plenty of rain this year, others are just coming into flower now. I was reading the SRG forum about Colchicum feinbruniae Syria and Maggi wrote, it was collected by R & R Wallis 99-32 near Laqlouq, Syria but no date, I have no date on mine either but the entry date on the forum is 2012 so its probably about 4-5 years prior to 2012. We are so lucky to have collectors who go into these regions collecting wild seed, if only it wasn't so difficult to bring seed into Australia.
Otto has told me he did not know Colchicum feinbruniae was in Australia, albeit one bulb. He tells me Naomi Feinbrun (1900-1995) was Professor of Botany at the Jewish University in Jerusalem. He says as you know I was born in the late 30's in the German colony, Jerusalem, where his grandparents had a Bakery, Cake shop. Otto's father once told him that Naomi Feinbrun was a customer in their shop in the 1930's. She also spoke German, as she had studied in Berlin for a few years.

Nerines are always good value for the garden, they flower for such a long time. They always seem so old fashioned to me, but when they do come into flower I appreciate them, as very little of anything else is out at that time of the year. Fermi's photo of Nerine angulata.

Oxalis Craig lidgerwood a hybrid found in Dicksonia Nursery by owner Stephen Ryan named after his partner. I like to grow my oxalis in terracotta pots as some can spread.  Jon's photo.

Rhodophiala bifida pink form, you can see from the background how dry it gets in Fermi and Will's garden, perfect for all of these hot climate bulbs as they do so well for Will and Fermi.  Fermi photo.

Lastly Cyclamen hedrifolium a good dark form, from the Green Ice Company they have new owners and I'm not sure if they are selling seed any longer, but the Cyclamen Soc. lists it on their seed list.

We are holding a Buy-Swap and Sell at the Olinda Community Hall, 79-81 Olinda Monbulk Road, Olinda.  all are welcome. Contact Fermi on agsvicgroup@hotmail.com
