Galanthus

Galanthus it's that time again for Galanthophile's.

Galanthus nivalis Anglesey Abbey.
Winter time is always made brighter by the appearance of the white and green flowers of Galanthus, with their single and double flowers and their individual markings, they are such a joy.
I like to move my Galanthus in the green, I find they transplant quite well while growing. I do use a hand full of rock minerals and charcoal dug into where I plant the bulbs. Water in well even if it is raining.
I had quite a lot of trouble when moving house as my Galanthus were left in pots for too long and I lost quite a few, thanks to a friend most were replaced. If you are going to grow Galanthus in pots they will need to be repotted each year in fresh medium. The Gordons (our founding members) used to say growing Galanthus in pots is not easy as they tend to go backwards, I have to say I agree with them, but they are relatively easy in the garden when you find the right spot.

Our next meeting is on the 27th August at 2.00pm with Kyrill speaking on Australian Terrestrial Orchids and he grows some beauties. He has plenty of photos and his knowledge is extraordinary. The meeting will be held at the Community House Olinda, Olinda-Monbulk Road, Olinda. Next door to the Olinda Swimming pool. The meeting will also be on zoom and you will need to get in touch with Fermi to be given the link. Hope to see you there.
