Saxifraga's

Saxifraga Silver.

Saxifraga xboydii a New Zealand import not correctly named of course, should have small needle like foliage and yellow flowers.

Saxifraga x edithae Bridget an import from New Zealand Aaron's plant.

Saxifraga cotyledon above and below easy in the rock garden as well as in pans.

Saxifraga granulata from seed, when you are raising Saxifraga from seed hardly any of the plants come true, but any thing that you do raise become special as it takes so long for them to form a bun of any size and they all have the slightest of differences between each plant. Keep all of your seedling plants and do cuttings of them as soon as they are large enough, as they are quite rare in Australia and you just can't go out and buy some as there aren't any for sale. Importing is difficult to do as plants are treated to high temperatures and sprayed, they die soon after arrival, but some survive.

Saxifraga hostii subsp  rhaetica above and below from SRGC seed. I use a good seed raising potting mix with grit mixed through but not too much as you don't want the mix to drain too easily, topped with quarter minus gravel toppings. Leave seedlings in the pot until large enough to handle approximately three years then pot up, fertilise seedlings with a granular or liquid feed regularly.

                                                       Saxifraga Jenkinsae Aaron's pan.

Saxifraga Kathleen Pinsent above and below flower hanging side ways an import from New Zealand.

Saxifraga longifolia subsp gausennii, Jamus Photo, my plant from seed slow to multiply.

                                                 Saxifraga Snowdrift a vigorous form.

                                                           Saxifraga's in trough.

Saxifraga Whitehill growing in a trough. I keep all of my Saxifraga's in hypertuffa troughs or pots as they love cool roots and the lime in the cement. They will grow in the garden but only some will thrive while others dislike garden conditions altogether in Australia.

Saxifraga x fritschiana St. Johns above and below variation from seed.

Saxifraga hornibrookii Riverslea Aaron raised from seed not sure if this is correctly named as it has not flowered as yet, it could be a hybrid.

Saxifraga Winifred so slow to make any size, but very pretty .
