Garden Visits.

Garden Visits.

The Alpine Garden Society Victorian Group Garden Visits for the
28th September 10.00am.

We have two very different gardens to visit for 28th September and a visit to Tonkin Bulbs in the afternoon with lunch and a toilet stop at Olinda Hall as there are no toilets at the gardens.

Our first garden visit is at 10.00am at Ross and Robyne's garden in the Patch, and what a wonderful exhilarating, refreshing change it is. All materials used in this garden have been recycled and reused creatively. Parking for disabled is at top of drive all the rest of the parking is in O'cconnor Street and walk back to the garden using public footpath,  the Road is very busy so be careful. Helen will be sending address and times by email to all of our members. I will get there early and put out balloons for parking and gardens.
Ross will be doing a small demonstration on building Rock walls.

Calder sculptures every where, this is a sensor light, hand made from about 5 elements or more.

The very unusual Pelargonium bowkeri

Ross showing us how to construct a rock wall.

The hand made level Ross uses to measure the slope of his walls

Explaining how to choose your rocks for your wall, placing small rocks around your large rocks to get an effect, using terracotta broken pots, bricks and old concrete. Thank you so much for a wonderful day Ross and Robyne

CULRAVEN
The Taylors Garden is so totally different to the above Garden. Aaron and Ross worked together for many years and it shows, with their exceptional craftsmanship as stone masons. This is a beautiful woodland garden, filled with many rare plants and large Rhododendron's, Skimia's and beautiful old flowering, fruiting crab apple and a forty foot Rock Garden and rock walls.

A drift of Hepatica with Erythronium tuolumnense.

  Mossy paths abound.
Many thanks Hugh and Liz for a wonderful walk around your garden such a privilege to see some of  Edna Walling and Mr Hammonds work.

TONKIN BULBS

Jane welcomed us at Tonkin bulbs, where she had many rare bulbs for sale, and we drooled with so many to choose from. A cup of tea and coffee awaited us with afternoon tea. After our purchases a wander down to her igloos to see her specials and what specials they were, just a few of them.

Arisaema  taiwanense

I think this is Trillium maculatum at first I thought it was Trillium ludovicianum but the flower petals are too wide, but if someone knows what it is I am happy to be corrected. A beautiful tessellation in the petals of the flowers, there is some thing very nice at having Trilliums at eye level.

Tropaeoleum a red flowering form, very nice.

Tulipa hageri above and below a lovely stout Tulip with pure red flowers and blue black base.

Tulipa kolpakowskiana.
