Woodbank Nursery.

Woodbank Nursery.

It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know of the passing of one of our founding members Lesley Gillanders, the quiet member of the family, always ready with a cup of tea and home made cake for morning or afternoon tea visitors to the garden or Nursery. Made sure all the orders were written out for Ken and kept an eye out on everything that was happening in the Nursery and garden. Many a time setting up the screen for a slide night with photos of their latest trip and plants they had discovered on those trips. "Where was this taken Lesley? or what was this? " was often the call in the dark and she always knew the answer.
It must have been a mammoth job moving family and Nursery to Hobart in Tasmania in 1975 from The Basin, Victoria, but it was seldom mentioned. Better growing conditions for the Alpines.

The extensive rock garden at the house and Nursery.
I do apologise for the cup of tea stains on the catalogue, we could have photo shopped them out, but there was always so much to look at in the catalogues it took a couple of days to read it all. It was very extensive and I doubt Ken would have been able to do it all on his own.
Hand written notes would be sent with your plants, in Lesley's writing to let you know something about your order, or just to say hello or thank you for your order.

Just two pages on the Daphne and Dianthus that were for sale in Tasmania. (April '95) click on photo to read page of the catalogue.

Thank you Lesley.
