Woodland Plants in the Suburbs.

Woodland Plants in the suburbs by Margaret S.

They have been transported from a higher altitude 600m down to approximately to 150m. It may not seem relevant to some, but to those who live in Australia will understand that is a lot considering our hot dry summers. However we do have cold winter temperatures sometimes down to zero degrees.
They have been in the lower altitude now for about 2 years. So it is a pleasing event to have the treasures flourish as they have so far.

Erythronium tuolumnense (below) is planted in a good potting mix grown outside shady position.

Trillium chloropetalum origin unknown possibly from T. Orpin.

Narcissus fernandesii.

Narcissus fernandesii.

Narcissus fernandesii was discovered in 1943 by Potuguese botanist J. Gomes Pedro. It was found growing near Samora Cor-reira in Portugal and has since been found growing in Spain close to Madrid.
John Blanchard's book on Narcissus has it listed as Narcissus fernandesii. I'm not sure where I obtained this species from but I have it named as Narcissus bulbacodium x fernandesii which I think is incorrect, it is one of my favourite Narcissus I love the short little flared cups and it is growing beautifully in my new garden. It gets up to about 10cm in height and has sun early, till about mid afternoon and is in shade for the hottest part of the day and is growing in garden soil.
